Neighborhood Blooms
Plant this fall. Help Charleston bloom this spring.

Neighborhood Blooms is a community beautification project led by RCCR and funded by the City of Charleston’s Heart of Our Neighborhoods initiative. This year, we’re providing 10,000 free daffodil bulbs to Charleston residents and businesses to brighten our neighborhoods and begin an annual tradition of color, pride, and hope, one bloom at a time. A small planting today can become a welcoming patch of spring color outside a home, business, or neighborhood gathering place. Together, we can help make Charleston’s streets and neighborhoods more beautiful.

About Daffodils
Daffodils are spring-flowering plants grown from bulbs planted in the fall. With a suitable planting spot and proper care, they can return year after year and gradually multiply, creating an even fuller display over time. They grow best in sunny locations with well-drained soil, making them a lovely addition to garden beds and borders.

Planting and Caring for Your Bulbs
-
Plant this fall, following any planting instructions provided with your bulbs.
-
Choose a sunny spot where water drains well.
-
Place bulbs upright, with the pointed end facing up. WVU Extension lists a planting depth of about 6 inches for daffodils; follow the directions for your specific bulbs.
-
After spring flowers fade, leave the green leaves in place until they turn yellow and wither. The leaves help the bulb store energy for next year’s flowers.
-

Daffodils are ornamental plants and are toxic if eaten. Keep bulbs and plants out of reach of children and pets that may chew or swallow them.

Share Your Spring Blooms
During registration, you can choose to receive a one-time text message from RCCR in the spring inviting you to upload a photo of your blooms. Participants who submit a photo will be entered into a gift card drawing. Receiving the text and sharing a photo are optional.
Help us grow a new Charleston tradition - one home, one business, and one bloom at a time.
