West Side of Charleston Initiative
(2025 - 2035)

From Blight to Belonging

The West Side Charleston Initiative is a 10-year, place-based investment focused on expanding affordable homeownership, revitalizing vacant properties, and strengthening neighborhood stability. This initiative combines new construction, rehabilitation, and housing preservation through Healthy Homes interventions to create lasting impact.

Through strategic partnerships and targeted development, RCCR is transforming underutilized properties into quality housing while creating long-term pathways for individuals and families to build wealth and remain in the community.

Why It Matters

The West Side Charleston Initiative addresses critical community needs by increasing the supply of quality affordable housing, reducing blight, and improving neighborhood safety. By expanding access to homeownership, the initiative supports economic mobility while strengthening long-term community stability. This work aligns with local, state, and federal housing priorities and contributes to broader neighborhood revitalization efforts.

Our Approach

Housing
Development & Home Repair

Constructing new single-family homes and duplexes while rehabilitating vacant and blighted properties and providing home repair to expand affordable homeownership and restore properties to productive use.

Targeted removal of severely distressed structures to support redevelopment

Pathways to Homeownership & Financial Stability

Goals

100 new homeowners supported

Expanded access to housing counseling and financial education services

Welcome Home Westside

Welcome Home West Side is an annual neighborhood initiative led by RCCR in partnership with community organizations, volunteers, and residents. Each year, we come together to complete visible improvements that strengthen the neighborhood and support the people who call it home. This effort reflects a shared commitment to reinvestment, pride, and long-term community stability.
